Lindy Hop

The Lindy Hop was "invented" in 1929 during a Charleston competition taking place at the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem, New York. When asked what he was dancing, Shorty George the credited inventor, said he was doing the "Lindy Hop" refering to Charles Lindburg who had flown across the Atlantic.

From there the dance exploded in popularity throughout the 30's and 40's. Once Rock-n-Roll hit the stage, the dancing changed with the music. Thus was born the great variety of Swing dancing today. However, the true Lindy Hop has never died and with efforts always being made to keep it as close to the roots as possible, the life of the original dance will never be lost.

The dance is lively, energetic, and terribly addicting. As a jazz improvisational dance, there is room for creativity that will keep it interesting and ever challenging.
