Waltz

The Waltz was originally developed in Vienna, Austria in the early seventeenth century. The word Waltz actually originated from the German word "walzen" which means to glide, turn or roll.

The original Waltz was done by the lower class, and seen as vulgar and sinful. It wasn't until the mid-eighteenth century that the French adopted the Waltz for their own. They enjoyed the Waltz for the dance's intertwining arms and close frame.

The Waltz is now one of the world's most popular dances. Waltz's tempo is 3/4 time, which seems to make the dance flow across the floor. Waltz is a great beginner dance that is easy to learn, while also providing a steady level of progression that can challenge even the most experienced dancers.
